It's A Good Day To Be A Democrat

I am so proud of my boy John.

I was expecting Kerry to do better than expected (ironically), but I was also expecting Bush to pull off his down home good ol' boy thing too. And wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, it didn't happen.

My carpool left work yesterday around 6 California time (yay for time zone math), so I listed to most of the debate on the radio. Kerry clearly won that, since moments of silence and "ums" are more emphasized on the radio, and Bush had a lot of those. But I was afraid of a Nixon/Kennedy thing where Kerry looked orange and French, so I am absolutely thrilled to read about Bush's lack of style in this morning's papers, a la Gore 2000.

I'm still afraid of the next couple of days, and of the debate, and of Karl Rove. He works for the devil. Like the Yankees. (Though I think the White House made a mistake in calling Kerry the greatest public orator since Cicero. I don't think most Americans know who Cicero is...or what an orator is. And those who do know about Cicero immediately think WTF? Clinton? Reagan? Kennedy? Lincoln? MLK? All better than Kerry. Bad move, Dan Bartlett.)

Of course, as a debater myself, Kerry missed some golden opportunities. But that might actually be a good thing. Let's keep those expectations down for the second debate, and then Bring It Hard in the final one. Being a Wartime President is hard work, as Bush told us so many times last night, so I think he's earned a nice long vacation clearning brush in Crawford.
